Sveti Jakov Beach

Sveti Jakov Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Dubrovnik is located in the eastern part of Dubrovnik Town in the tiny bay offering a distant look to the Lokrum and Old Town.

It is situated about a mile away from the Old Town so you can reach it either by foot or by bus no 5 or 8. If you take the bus wait until the last stop where you get off the bus as the beach is just a few hundred meters away, down the hill.

Once you arrive near the Sv. Jakov church which is situated on the top of the cliff,  just around the corner of the church is a staircase to descend down to the Beach. There are about 160 steps to the beach and I must say –  getting back can be a bit of a pain.

Being a  lovely pebble beach with distant views of Dubrovnik Old Town this is a very popular gathering spot among locals, especially in the summer months.

Overlooking the Lokrum island, Sveti Jakov has a lovely restaurant and beach bar as well as parasol, sea kayak and jet-ski rental place, beach volleyball court and more…

Beach Type: pebble / sandy / some rocky patches /

Recommended for: relaxing, peace and quiet and lovely sunset views

Getting there:

  • From the Old Town – walk out from the walled town through Ploce Gate and continue walking along the road Ulica Frana Supila and then Ulica Vlaha Bukovca, for another 20 minutes passing Hotel Argentina. Proceed further to the Sveti Jakov church and right behind the church, there are the steps that are leading down the cliff to the beach.
  • From Lapad and Babin Kuk – take bus no 6 to Pile gate and proceed by foot or take bus no 5
  • From Gruž – take bus no 1 to Pile Gate and proceed by foot or take bus no 8
  • GPS location coordinates: 42°38’06.8″N 18°07’50.7″E

Access to the beach (update): To avoid steep stairs, you can take boat or bus from Gruž, Lapad or Old town that will take you directly to the seashore. The transfers are organised by a local company (Jelavić d.o.o. Dubrovnik) that also run a restaurant and beach bar here.
