Veliki žal Beach

Beach Veliki žal (or Bijeli žal) is about 30km away from Dubrovnik Old Town.

It is located on the western side of the town in the near vicinity of small village Brsecine across the sea from Šipan Island.

Veliki žal is a beautiful pebble beach with perfectly clear sea and transparent green and blue colours.

Facing south, the beach is sunny all day around until the sunset.

Veliki Zal is particularly suitable for children as the water here is not deep and the sea bottom is soft to walk on. Jumping into the sea is not safe here as the water is not deep enough.

The facilities include a small local cafe/restaurant serving basic food, snacks and refreshments.

If you would like to go for an afternoon to visit the beach you can use public buses which are running there at least once an hour from Dubrovnik’s main bus station.

It is pretty easy to find this beach as it is visible from the main road The Adriatic Highway (Državna cesta D8 also known as ‘Jadranska magistrala’).

The beach has its own parking and small access road that leads downhill to the seashore (enlarge below map to see more details)

If I have a few hours to spare while driving to Dubrovnik from the West I always stop here to have a quick swim and refreshment as this place is so beautiful and convenient to stop by.
