Getting to Dubrovnik Old Town

How to reach the old town

Here are all details about getting to the old city of Dubrovnik from various points around the town as well as from the airport. In my opinion, the most pleasant route is by local ferry shuttle however, it runs in a high season only. The year around alternatives is either walking if it is a walking distance or taking one of the local buses or taxi /uber. The cheapest way is to take a bus (12 kunas one way) and the most comfortable one is a taxi – have a look:

From Gruž and ferry port: (map)

If you arrived in Dubrovnik by ferry, cruise ship, by bus or if your accommodation is in Gruž to reach the Old town you would need to take a bus or taxi as the old town is about 3 km away from there. Take a bus no 1A , 1B and no 3 or taxi / uber. Bus fares are 15 kuna, taxi 90 kuna, uber from 55 kuna (see above photo). Get off the last stop in Pile. Walk through the Pile Gate down the steps to Stradun and you are at the main old town’s promenade. Entrance to town walls walk are right there too, on the left-hand side. From Lapad and Babin Kuk (map)

• If your accommodation is in Lapad or Babin Kuk, to reach the Old town from there take the bus line no 2 , 4 or bus line 6. The bus will take you to the Pile Gate, the main old town’s entrance, which is the last stop. From there just walk down the steps to Stradun (as above). The directions map and detailed route is here

From Boninovo:

• Boninovo is on the walking distance to the Old town. It is about 20 minutes pleasant walk along the Ulica Branitelja Dubrovnika to Pile Gate entrance to the town (as above). If you prefer getting by bus, take any bus passing by Boninovo (1, 4, 6) it is only 3-4 stops to Pile, the last stop in front of the gate.

From Ploce, Kono and Sveti Jakov:

• Ploce and Kono are also on the walking distance to Old Town. From Kono, use Buza gate to reach Stradun, from Ploce use Ploce Gate; from Sveti Jakov and Zlatni Potok take bus no 8 to Ploce.
